Routine and Preventative Care

Vaccinations, Dental Floats and Physical Exams

Routine veterinary care can help keep your horse healthy and identify problems early. Annual wellness exams help us become familiar with your horse and identify potential problems. We can give advice on diet, exercise and general management, and we can create a customized vaccination and deworming schedule for your horse. All recommendations are tailored to your horse’s life stage, level of work, and individual needs. We recommend annual dental exams to keep your horse from developing points, hooks and sharp edges. Regular exams and dental floats will keep your horse comfortable and help prevent physical and behavioral problems. Annual exams are the perfect time to have blood drawn for a Coggins test. Results are available online at MyVetLink.com and accessible from anywhere through the MyVetLink app. More information can be found on our 'Links' page.

Chiropractic Care

Veterinary Spinal Manipulation Therapy

Dr. Kathleen Gill is certified in Veterinary Spinal Manipulative Therapy (VSMT), commonly known as chiropractic adjustments. Chiropractic adjustments can improve the health, comfort and performance of your horse.  The benefits of VSMT include enhanced performance, function and quality of life.

It is important to note that every animal will respond differently to chiropractic care. Animals with long standing issues may initially require a multiple chiropractic evaluations within 2-4 weeks of each other in order to establish long standing results. As maintenance, performance animals generally benefit from adjustments every 4-6 weeks. Other animals may require less frequent adjustments.

Horse

Pre-Purchase Exams

Be Informed

Thinking about purchasing a new horse? Make an informed decision by learning as much as possible about the horse before making such a large investment. Our pre-purchase exams include a thorough physical examination, checking the animal from head to toe. Based on the examination, we will make recommendations pertaining to any additional diagnostic steps such as bloodwork, or drug screening that can help identify other issues that may affect your purchase. We evaluate the soundness of the animal, and can tailor an exam to best meet your needs. Using our portable diagnostic equipment, we are able to perform soft tissue and reproductive ultrasounds, as well as take radiographs at the time of the pre-purchase exam to provide you with timely information and results. Ultrasounds, radiographs and bloodwork are not included in the exam fee, and will result in additional charges. You will be provided with documentation of all findings.

Please note: we cannot perform a pre-purchase exam on an animal that is already a patient in our practice.
